Subject: Painted Door Mirrors

Does anyone know how to get the painted "cap" off the side mirrors without damaging it? My mirror was broken and I bought a replacement used mirror, but I need to swap the painted parts of it so that it's the correct color on my car. It looks like this part should just snap on (and hopefully off), but I'm afraid of breaking it!
