Subject: Expansion tank hoses

Had a situation yesterday where I overfilled the tank a bit and when driving home after I could smell fuel. Now, I could tell it wasn't coming from the front of the car and the smell came up from the trunk. I'm no stranger to this, remember I have a E12.

When I got home I checked around for leaks as it was dripping on the driveway just under the tank. So I pulled the rubber insert from the filler door and there it was....leaking from all 3 small hoses. When I removed the gas cap and released the pressure, the leaking stopped.
What I did next was to remove the hoses and cutoff around 1" (3cm) from the end & reattach. The ends of the hoses are cracked & rotted. This slowed the leak but didn't stop it.

New hoses are needed but does anybody know how much hose I will need to replace them all? Does it have to be braided line? These hoses won't ever see 40PSI so I was wondering if I could use a generic replacement fuel line. In the mean time I will have to be careful not to over fill my tank. Also, could this be considered a vacuum leak? I have some rough idling and I need to track down the cause.

Thanks!

Trevor M
