Dear Minneapolis Bimmer Group Member,
By now you’ve noticed our name has changed. It was decided to change our name as a result of contacting BMW with a request for permission to continue using their name (BMW) and logo (Roundel).

As many of you know, I’ve been hoping to disperse my responsibilities within the group to those who were interested in supporting a role in the function of our group. I’m creating a Board of Directors, a small group of members to concentrate on organization and function of this group.

This is a pretty big step in this group, so with keeping that in mind I decided that to be on the safe side and contact BMW and tell them about our group. I wrote a detailed letter informing them what we’ve done, our direction, and where we’re going in the future. After about a week and several forwards within their organization, I finally received a response back from BMW.

On Friday, Dorthee Grau; a representative of the International Club Office based in Munich, Germany, contacted me and pleasantly informed me about our current options.

BMW has organized their club structure that’s run by an International Council, its divided into 4 large International subdivisions, its then further subdivided into smaller specific country divisions, and finally, its divided into state divisions (or their likeness) and so-fourth. Each division is under the control of it’s hierarchy and has rules, guidelines, etc… that it has to follow. So now that you understand the organization of the BMWCCA and where we would fit in, I’ll tell you what happened next.

I was asked to contact the appropriate representative of “the adequate umbrella organization” regarding forming a new club. This raised my concerns regarding our inclusion in such an organization that may question our concepts and non-acceptance of the International BMW Clubs, therefore joining them is not an avenue I’m willing to take. I don’t want to and not about to follow any guidelines, policies and rules set-fourth by somebody else. I want us to continue with our current activities and explore different avenues that are drastically different than anything else the BMWCCA is currently engaged in, and has done in the past.

As it is now, my decision is very clear as to the direction of our group, and I’ve decided to release us of any direct or possible legal ties from BMW. We no longer are using the BMW name or logo anymore to avoid any possible legal action from their organization. We’ll be using “Bimmer” instead and create our own logo to represent our organization. I’ll move forward in creating a Board of Directors and will welcome the input of our members regardless of their involvement of group activities. What does this ultimately mean? Well… we’re free to do what we want! We have no possible legal ties with BMW and we have a good base of members to move forward! We’ll be more organized, offer more to our members and continue not to charge any membership fees. Hopefully this week I’ll send out another E-mailing outlining the Board of Directors positions, their simple responsibilities and we’ll start from there. I hope everyone has a better understanding about the delays, my reservations and concerns in the past few months and will join me as we start our new chapter of the Minneapolis Bimmer Group!

Thanks to all of those who have stuck in there, the hard part is behind us… who said it was going to be easy?

Sincerely,

Eric Kozar
