high school kid in a newish Ram pickup in front of me on a rural road on a misty morning. I knew it was game over when he punched it to pass the lady in front of him in a no-passing zone. He got parallel to her and went sideways. she hit the brakes just in time as he came back across the road and nosed into the ditch on the right side. Kid was very lucky that the truck snapped back to the direction of travel just as he hit a driveway/culvert or he'd have rolled bigtime. He went completely airborne, a wheel snapped and flew off while in the air and went back into the ditch on the far side of the driveway.

Truck looked surprisingly good, but I couldn't see the side buried in the ditch. He got out and just had scratches on his arm. He got very lucky. Son was in my backseat and thought the whole thing was pretty cool. I have to admit, it looked just like one of those police chase videos.

Although if it were me that he was passing while I had my kid in the car, I'd probably not have shown as much compassion for him as I did.
