Subject: it was $645 for the entire service

it required 9.5 quarts of fluid at $32 a qt (I have the 440z trans). the solenoid was $75 + 1 hr labor and the fluid/filter/flush was 1.5 hrs labor.

I felt like EC did a great job on it, the trans doesn't have the whining noise that so many people complain about after a trans service. my 1-2 shift in S4 mode at WOT used to be really soft, but I think it might actually be a little firmer now. Nino said its possible the speed solenoid could have caused a soft shift under those conditions.

On a side note, I probably could have saved some money by requesting Nino to purchase fluid at VW or Audi, or brought my own fluid in. He used all BMW parts including the fluid. At the same time, I didn't want there to be any question/risk on the whole transmission whine issue either.

Another side note, a friend of mine has a 95 or 96 740i (with the 560z trans I think, Hi Brian if you're reading this), and he had the same trans failsafe in it shortly after he bought it. the shop he went to (don't know which one) said it was that same speed solenoid code. He opted not to replace it, and hasn't had a problem since, so I probably could have let it go. But we're only talking about $160 extra, after getting into $300 worth of fluid I wasn't taking chances.. :-) His 740i shifts VERY firm into second gear which I like a lot, but in a head to head race after some test rides in each other's car we both agreed mine is a bit faster. Still need that super charger though....someday...
