I will be receiving the widescreen and MKIV for my 2000 740I sport any day now. I read many of the threads here,Bimmernav and Xoutpost and there is a great wealth of info. I am comfortable with the physical install, but have a few questions and clarifications, since the devil is always in the details.

1.) Should I disconnect the battery before removing/installing MKIV and widescreen?
2.) If I disconnect battery, will I have to reenter code for radio.
3) To code or not to code? If I install the MKIV and widescreen, but haven't recoded, what do I have? Does the radio work, Nav work, etc?
4.) NavCoder is for the coding among other things, but do I need an interface to connect. I heard about Resler. More Importantly, can I screw up anything when I use the NavCoder.
5.)If I don't use NavCoder, but go to the dealer, what is the dealer actually coding?
6.) Should I stick with the current software version (won't know version,until I fire it up), until the system works flawlessly before trying to do an upgrade? and what is a splash screen anyway?
