Hi Guys,

Thought I would report to everyone, that today my 1992 535i died after 433,000. I think it was the timing chain tensioner that failed. About 3 weeks ago, I began to hear an unusal sound from under the hood, but only at ideal, last week I tried to pin point where it was coming from and it seemed to be coming for the front of the motor and my mechanic thought it could be the timing chain. I think he was right... today idealing in a parking lot the motor just 'stopped' running and made what did sound like a chain getting tangled up. I tried to start it, and it drew all the power and the radio started flashing C-O-D-E.

Well got her towed home tonight, havent done anything, but i think the timing chain tensioner failed. So BIG QUESTION::: I am wondering if this is the case, how much damage is there going to be? Did the values and the pistons make contact, am I looking at bent value and crack pistons????

If it is serious I am going to have a parts cars available soon in the Jersey Shore area if anyone would be interested, let me know what you need.

Joe

thanks,
Joe
