"All and all that is over 3000 on top of the planned respray (which I'm so patiently waiting for ). When I start counting things up I wonder what I'm doing..."

I've had same problem, many many times. It's good thing to doubt even your own decisions, once in a while.

But I'll admit it's a madness so I don't have to care ... everyone should have at least one.

Also:
1) Don't count and/or
2) It's a hobby, it's supposed not to be profitable. Many people go to work just to finance their hobbies (I know that I do).

Fixing an E32 is still much cheaper than visiting shrink regurarly and does the same job, at least for me. At that point it's really cheap from whatever angle you choose.

I've had cars which I just drove but it became very boring quite soon: I have to have a balance between repairing and reward, i.e. driving.

I've some of my own old cars crushed, usually when no-one will buy them and the ratio drive/repair becomes unbearable and something major breaks in a not so desirable daily driver. Hobby cars usually are sellable, even if for free (like a '78 Fiat 128 I had almost 20 years and sold 2010 for 50 euros).

I was really looking for a E32 Highline last year and then I realized that I could never drive in winter, on salted roads with that, so I'd need at least two E32s. Or one and a cheap, random winter car.

For that the somewhat worn long model is perfect.
