Subject: One day..all fine..next? car is falling apart. wtf. huge vibration w/ throttle?

Wonderful. This weekend I changed the oil, topped up the gearbox and installed new gearbox mounts. Everything seemed fine, aside from that annoying power steering problem I've had for some time..at low rpms, and sometimes when turning+shifting, I hear a sharp whine from the power steering. Fluid is full..

earlier today I washed the car, including a low pressure spray off of the engine bay, like I usually do when I wash it (every week). I noticed that there were a few rip marks in the hood insulation, and a giant rip mark in it. wtf?

When I started it, it idled terribly. Probably got a little water in to the spark plug boots. So what, I guess.

Later on I thought maybe by making sure I had the belt fully tensioned I could make the power steering issue go away. Well, when I was working on that, I saw a giant chunk was missing from the intake tube..looks like the fan rubbed on it hard and just took off a ton of material. I was pretty pissed, took some ducting tape and taped it up. Took it for a drive.

At one point I was going 80 in 6th gear (abt 2000rpm) and I felt this huge vibration in the steering wheel. But, if I let off the throttle it would go away..and when I got back on, it came back. I figured I had bad engine mounts, and I was right. Put it on jack stands, and then started to jack engine from pan..engine was moving freely. Great. I've already changed them twice during my ownership

what the fuck? Could the vibration be cause of a bad control arm? One of the cheapo Meyle arms I bought is already failing, but before today it was only barely noticeable.

How quickly ones fortunes can change with a 7 series..I need a drink
