My wife says a new building on the southeast corner of 35W and 494
has sprung up in the last few days, and yesterday when she passed it,
it had 2 large BMW symbols on it. Anybody know what's up there?

It is the "New" Motorwerks BMW building sitting on the site of the
"Old" Motorwerks BMW.
So after only 4-5 years, $millions of dollars of litigation with Best
Buy, the City of Bloomington/Richfield and $Hundreds of Thousands in
relocation and rennovation costs, Motorwerks is back where they
started. No wonder Jack Walser has taken back control of Motorwerks
from his sons!

I knew that was the site of the "old" Motorwerks BMW, as it was where I bought my first BMW. It just didn't seem believable that they would move 3 times in about 6 years, especially after building a new facility in west Bloomington (where they are now).

I hope it works out well for them.

I think that its going to have a system like the Smart cars in Europe. I
had an order come through about some replacement parts for one of these
systems so I followed up. The person that ordered it said it was for the
new BMW dealership, this was around 6 months ago.

If this is what I think it is, it should be one of the coolest car
dealerships around (at least to look at).

It looks like it's going to have a parking ramp to hold the new car
inventory. This is very common in southern Florida and I'm surprised that
it took so long to arrive in Minnesota(although it must be very expensive!).
I would imagine that in the long run it will be beneficial as the cars wont
be exposed to the elements and the dealer will save money and time keeping
the cars and the lot clean of snow.

Anybody know when it is slated for completion?

By head Tech are you referring to P.D.Dzimian? PD is one of the good guys at
Motorwerks along with David Berger, Alex Tzmarkin, Don Lynch and others.

Subject: RE: New BMW building?

Hello all,

I really enjoyed reading the many responses from this original e-mail. I'm
sure there will be more to come....

Well, since I am currently on contract with Peter Hasselquist to work on
this new building I thought I would take this opportunity to help clarify
and confirm some of these e-mails. I am dealing with just about every aspect
of this new building down to the bathroom faucets. It has been one of the
best jobs I have ever had. I can't wait for this baby to be born! I
currently wear a hat with many items under it.

Yes, that new big tall building is the new location for BMW & MINI. The
tower has yet to go up so it will be getting bigger. The final design of it
has not been confirmed.
This is the original site of what was called BMW 1. 1 being the original
location. When they were there they were unable to buy any of the land which
they now own.
They did not build the new building they are in for BMW. That building was
built for Peterson Pontiac that was then purchased by Walser. Walser then
moved BMW there when Best Buy came along and the new Buick store was built.
They had plans to build a new store where Best Buy is. They had to move
somewhere and that is where they are now.
One show floor for used cars, second floor for new cars and MINI next to
that. There original was 3 floors but that was removed. Originally that was
going to be for MINI and or M cars from what I remember.
No, it will not have a system like the Smart Car. This is the first I have
heard that one.
The parking ramp is 4 levels high mostly above the shop area. New cars,
customer cars and most if not all employee parking, for now. The main lot
will hold used cars.
Expensive, ya don't want to know...
The slated date to move in is March-April 2006.

I hope this helps to quench the thirst? Note that I would love to tell you
so much more but some times it is best to be surprised, not that there are
any surprises.

Pete Heinz
