FYI - posted same on E39 forum......

Finally got around to virgin NAV retrofit in my E39 using retrofit harness. Existing CD53, MID, DSP, no-CD changer upgraded to BM53, MKIV, monitor and same DSP amp. Trunk test worked fine.

After install, reconnect battery and only get BMW logo on monitor display. No monitor power light. Can get logo again after hitting clock button. MKIV has red power light, takes in disc, seems active. As if it doesn't find amp and/or BM53.

Bluetooth still works, so maybe amp is alive.

Try battery disconnect resets to no avail.

Even diconnect all new HW/harness and revert to just old radio and MID only - radio gets power, but MID is dead.

Then notice that cluster "Check Control OK" will not work. As well as cluster indicator lights (turn signals, hi beams, gongs). Saw posts about this and suspect LCM causing ibus failures. Then on one battery reset, notice just front right angel eyes on. Does not repeat error. LCM?

Repulled cluster/LCM to check connections were secure, still no luck. But no cluster indicators and monitor only gets logo.

I knew I needed to get new equip coded anyway, but ready to give-up and take to dealer to debug. I did notice that my 2001 has a 2005 cluster, but it didn't have any tamper lights.

Any guesses to this "cluster"!?
