Ok, I'm new but desperate so please help me out. I have a 2001 740IL. MKII navigation with the 4:3 screen. Radio works but shuts off after a couple minutes. Screen flickers but shows nothing. It looks like the cd reader reads for a minute then the power light on it shuts off comes back on and looks likes its trying to read again.

The cheapest and easiest solution was to assume that at some point the firmware got hosed. I found an image file for version 17.1 and burnt it using Clone CD and Image burn. the disks do the same thing as the map disk in the drive. I assume it is not reflashing the firmware because the disks are wrong. Image burn says that the file is actually mode2 form 2. I cannot change it to form 1 and I have read in a few places that is key. I'm using memorex cdr-'s. Any guidance that can be offered would be appreciated. How do I find an image file that was created in mode 2 form 1 or is there a way around that. i see clone CD will do mode 1 and it allows you to pick data CD which I think sets form 1 or XA but I'm not sure.
